The University of Queensland is delighted to present the grand finale of Spectrum. Rhapsody in C: Gershwin to Riley commences with an Acknowledgement of Country performed by Yalanji musician Deline Briscoe with Robert Davidson and Sketch. The acclaimed Viney-Grinberg Duo then presents George Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, which celebrated its 100-year anniversary in February this year.

Described at its premiere as “an experiment in modern music”, Rhapsody in Blue sits comfortably beside a more recent work of great innovation – Terry Riley's In C, a pivotal work of minimalism from 1964 that has been instrumental in transforming contemporary musical culture. This is a rare opportunity to hear a work that helped shape the soundtrack of the contemporary world.

This event is supported by Yamaha Music Australia.

Presented as part of 'Spectrum', The University of Queensland School of Music's inaugural music festival at UQ St Lucia, and proudly associated with UQ Arts.
